Starting from the 21st, No Parking or Stopping Zones Enforced in School Zones
[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Choi Soon-kyung] Hapcheon-gun, Gyeongnam announced on the 20th that from the 21st, parking and stopping will be completely prohibited in 20 children's protection zones (daycare centers, kindergartens, elementary schools) within the jurisdiction.
Previously, parking and stopping were prohibited only in some designated areas within children's protection zones, but from the 21st, when the revised law takes effect, all children's protection zones will be designated as no parking and stopping areas.
With the revision of the Road Traffic Act Enforcement Decree last May, fines for illegal parking and stopping in children's protection zones have been increased to 120,000 KRW for passenger cars (including cargo trucks under 4 tons) and 130,000 KRW for buses (including cargo trucks over 4 tons, special vehicles, and construction machinery), further strengthening pedestrian safety on children's commuting routes.
Additionally, the county plans to continue operating the illegal parking and stopping reporting system using the Safe Newspaper app to do its best to prevent children's traffic accidents.
Currently, 20 locations are designated as children's protection zones within the jurisdiction, including Hapcheon Elementary School, Chogye Elementary School, and Samga Elementary School.
Moon Jun-hee, the mayor of Hapcheon-gun, stated, “Illegal parking and stopping in children's protection zones are the main causes of traffic accidents. We ask for the cooperation of residents so that a safe walking environment can be created where children can walk with peace of mind.”
