[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Park Jin-hyung] Two residents of Nam-gu, Gwangju Metropolitan City, who were hospitalized in a university hospital due to illness, have publicly shared posts praising the district office officials who took meticulous care of them like family, drawing attention to their story.
According to Nam-gu (District Mayor Kim Byeong-nae) on the 20th, two posts praising the touching administration of district office officials were recently uploaded on the Nam-gu district office website’s ‘Let’s Praise’ section.
A, who participated in a public job project, was taken to the emergency room of Chosun University Hospital as their condition worsened while returning home after work. Numerous tests were conducted over two days, and after receiving the interim billing statement, A’s heart sank due to the hospital fees.
The cost was equivalent to two months’ salary from the public job project.
In despair, A called Son Mobin (Grade 7), an administrative officer of the Innovation Policy Division, the department in charge of the project. Upon hearing the distressing situation, Officer Son offered warm consolation and explained the emergency welfare benefits available.
Then, collaborating with Officer Oh Hye-eun of the Welfare Policy Division, they reviewed A’s eligibility for emergency welfare support. Officer Oh also swiftly prepared dozens of related documents to actively support A in crisis.
A expressed gratitude, saying, “Thanks to the family-like response of the two public officials, I was safely discharged and feel proud to be a resident of Nam-gu.”
Currently, A is recovering from illness while receiving support for emergency medical expenses, living costs, and fuel expenses.
The younger sister living in Seoul, who spoke on behalf of her brother who collapsed due to a cerebral hemorrhage, also left a message.
B, who lives alone, was in poor financial condition when he collapsed from a cerebral hemorrhage, underwent surgery at a university hospital, and was admitted to the intensive care unit. His condition remains poor, and he is currently receiving rehabilitation treatment after being transferred to another hospital.
Hospital bills piled up, and B’s sister, C, confided in Welfare Support Officer Joo Jeong-hee. Officer Joo comforted them, explaining that not only the first but also the second round of emergency medical support was possible, wiping away their tears.
B was classified as a basic livelihood security recipient and has been receiving living expenses and medical benefits since this month, focusing on rehabilitation treatment.
C said, “I only cautiously inquired, but I never dreamed that all our worries would be resolved so swiftly. I am sincerely grateful and will never forget this kindness.”
The three officials who provided assistance said, “We were just fulfilling our duties as public servants, and it is heartwarming to know that we became a help and hope to someone. We will faithfully play a behind-the-scenes role for a happy welfare Nam-gu.”
