[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Seohyun] Regarding the remarks by Yoon Seok-yeol, the People Power Party's presidential candidate and former Prosecutor General, that appeared to defend Jeon Du-hwan, Kim Kyung-jin, a special external cooperation advisor for Yoon's campaign and former lawmaker, apologized, saying, "I feel embarrassed about the candidate's use of inappropriate expressions."
On the 20th, Kim appeared on CBS Radio's 'Kim Hyun-jung's News Show' and said, "There was an excessive use of expression itself, and we will try to correct the candidate's speaking habits."
Kim explained, "If you listen carefully, it includes the content that (former President Jeon Du-hwan) discovered talented individuals well, appointed them to the right places, and delegated proper authority, which led to the economy running smoothly," adding, "It seems that former Prosecutor General Yoon tends to use extreme contrasts to clarify what he wants to say."
When asked by the host, "Is there a possibility that former Prosecutor General Yoon himself will apologize directly in Gwangju?" Kim replied, "Our staff will discuss and let you know." When the host asked again, "Are you saying there is a possibility of a direct apology, not just a spokesperson's apology?" Kim answered, "In any case, as the staff, we will do so."
Earlier, Yoon visited the Haeundae-eul Party Member Council in Busan the day before and responded to criticism that his policies were weak by saying, "Many people say that President Jeon Du-hwan did well in politics, except for the military coup and the May 18 (Gwangju Democratization Movement). Such comments are common even in Honam." He continued, "I left it to the experts because he had experience managing organizations while in the military," and added, "Although there was the 'three lows phenomenon' at the time, the economy ran well because it was entrusted that way," which sparked controversy.
As the controversy intensified, former Prosecutor General Yoon clarified, "I did not mean that he did everything well in politics, but that there are lessons to be learned in terms of delegation of authority."
