[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Cheol-young] The Seoul Institute announced on the 20th that it will hold a seminar commemorating its 29th anniversary at Ferrum Tower Ferrum Hall on the 21st under the theme "Urban Prospects of Seoul in the With-Corona Era."

The seminar will proceed with an opening address by Yoo Ki-young, Acting Director of the Seoul Institute, followed by a video congratulatory message from Seoul Mayor Oh Se-hoon, a congratulatory speech by Chae In-mook, Chair of the Planning and Economy Committee of the Seoul Metropolitan Council, a panel discussion on the new normal in citizens' daily lives, research presentations on economic and urban planning strategies for Seoul's development during this transitional period, and an online discussion.

In the first part of the seminar, a panel discussion will be held under the theme "Citizens' Daily Lives in the New Normal." Professor Han Joon from the Department of Sociology at Yonsei University will serve as the moderator, introducing the changed daily lives that have become the new normal ahead of the With-Corona era and discussing the problems citizens face amid these changes. The second part of the seminar will feature research presentations under the theme "Development Strategies for Seoul in the Transitional Period."

The first presentation, titled "Paradigm Shift and Seoul Economy Response Direction" (Hee-seok Park, Senior Research Fellow at the Seoul Institute), will diagnose the current state of Seoul's economy and propose policy directions to respond to ongoing economic changes. The second presentation, titled "Development Strategies for Seoul's Urban Space in the Transition Era" (In-hee Kim, Senior Research Fellow at the Seoul Institute), will present prospects for changes in urban space accelerated by the digital transition era due to the pandemic and the tasks for response.

The online discussion will involve experts in the economic and urban planning fields, debating development strategies for Seoul during this transitional period. To maintain social distancing, attendance will be minimized, and the seminar will be broadcast live to share with many citizens. It can be viewed on the Seoul Institute's website or the Seoul Institute's YouTube channel.

Yoo Ki-young, Acting Director of the Seoul Institute, said, "We have prepared this event to collectively consider what Seoul needs to prepare to wisely pioneer an uncharted path on the occasion of the Seoul Institute's 29th anniversary." He added, "I hope that the opinions of experts from various fields discussed at the seminar and the 'New Growth Strategy for Seoul in the New Normal Era' proposed by the Seoul Institute will serve as a solid stepping stone as we cross into the With-Corona era."
