Samsung Compliance Committee Urges Samsung C&T to "Make Efforts to Prevent Industrial Accidents"

[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung's compliance monitoring organization, the Compliance Monitoring Committee, has requested Samsung C&T to continue its efforts to prevent industrial accidents.

On the afternoon of the 19th, Samsung's Compliance Committee held a regular meeting at the Samsung Seocho Building in Seocho-gu, Seoul, and reported on the industrial accident prevention measures currently being implemented by Samsung C&T in relation to the strengthened industrial safety and health regulations, including the introduction of the Serious Accident Punishment Act. Samsung C&T, Samsung's construction affiliate, declared full guarantee of the right to stop work in March this year.

The right to stop work allows workers to halt operations when there is an imminent danger or a serious accident occurs. Samsung C&T has expanded this right to allow workers to exercise the right to stop work even when there is no imminent danger.

The Compliance Committee mentioned Samsung C&T's activation of the right to stop work and requested, "Please continue to make efforts to comply with the strengthened legal regulations and external demands."

In addition, the Compliance Committee stated that it reviewed and approved external sponsorship funds and internal transactions of partner companies such as Samsung Electronics and Samsung SDI.

Samsung's Compliance Committee was established in February last year following the retrial court's order for Vice Chairman Lee Jae-yong to establish an internal compliance monitoring system amid the 'National Pension Service Scandal' retrial. Former Supreme Court Justice Kim Ji-hyung serves as the chairman.
