[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] Attorney Kwon Kyung-ae, who participated as a contributor to the so-called 'Jo Guk Black Book,' targeted Yoon Seok-yeol, a presidential primary candidate of the People Power Party, warning, "There is a line that should not be crossed even in political rhetoric. If you keep stepping over the line, it's out."
On the 19th, Attorney Kwon wrote on her Facebook, "(Former Prosecutor General) Yoon said that former President Chun Doo-hwan did well in politics except for the coup and the May 18 Gwangju Democratization Movement, because he left it to economic experts," and made this remark.
Earlier, Yoon visited the Haeundae-gap Party Member Council in Haeundae-gu, Busan, and said, "Former President Chun Doo-hwan made mistakes except for the military coup and May 18, but many say he really did well in politics," adding, "Even people from Honam say such things."
He continued, "The reason they say he did well in politics is that he entrusted it to experts. He was in the military and had experience managing organizations, so he entrusted it," and said, "At that time, there was the '3 lows phenomenon (low interest rates, low oil prices, low dollar),' but because he entrusted it, things went well."
As controversy over the remarks spread, Yoon said at the People Power Party Gyeongnam Provincial Party Office in Changwon, Gyeongnam, in the afternoon, "What was done well was done well, and I clearly said that the May 18 and the military coup were wrong," adding, "Whenever I say something, people cut off the beginning and the end, but if you look at the full text, everything is there."
He also explained, "That person made many mistakes during his seven years in power, and it is not that he did well in politics overall," adding, "There is something to learn in terms of delegation of authority, which is what subsequent presidents and experts say, and even some people from Honam say such things."
Regarding this, Attorney Kwon criticized, "Former Prosecutor General Yoon constantly causes controversy with unnecessary remarks," and added, "He does not reflect on the causes of the controversy, responds by calling it distortion, and stubbornly refuses to back down."
She continued, "The same pattern repeats every time," and added, "It makes it really embarrassing to actively and publicly express support."
