Jeonnam Fire Department Operates Customized Fitness Management Program for Rookie Firefighters

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] Jeonnam Fire Headquarters (Chief Ma Jaeyoon) announced on the 19th that it will operate a field-tailored fitness management program for rookie firefighters in collaboration with the ‘National Fitness 100 Fitness Certification Center’.

Firefighters must have strong physical fitness as a foundation to ensure safety in dangerous moments through correct judgment at fire and disaster sites.

In particular, the physical abilities of personnel such as muscular endurance, cardiopulmonary endurance, agility, and quickness serve as the driving force to safely perform on-site tasks during disaster situations.

The fitness management program linked with the Fitness Certification Center measures the physical abilities of new firefighters, including physique inspection, muscular strength, flexibility, and quickness, and digitizes each firefighter’s fitness level.

The measurement items include ▲grip strength measurement ▲cross sit-ups ▲20m shuttle run ▲sit and reach forward bend ▲10m shuttle run ▲standing long jump, totaling six types.

Jeonnam Fire plans to intensively strengthen the fitness elements needed on site through fitness programs such as CrossFit, circuit training, and TABATA, based on the data provided during the training period for new firefighters, focusing on the areas lacking in individual measurement results.

Chief Ma Jaeyoon said, “The data created to allow a clear view of the lacking and improved items through scientific fitness measurement will serve as good motivation for prospective firefighters’ voluntary fitness management,” adding, “Our goal is to cultivate professional firefighters strong in the field to fulfill the role of protecting the safety of the residents.”

Meanwhile, ‘National Fitness 100’ is a national sports welfare service that scientifically measures and evaluates fitness status and provides exercise counseling and prescriptions. Anyone aged 11 or older in the Republic of Korea can participate, and free services are available at fitness certification centers nationwide.
