[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Ji-eun] On the 19th, the Ministry of Unification stated that there was no specific mention regarding whether there was any notification through the communication liaison line before North Korea launched an unidentified projectile into the East Sea.
An official from the Ministry of Unification responded to reporters' questions about whether there was prior notification of the projectile launch through the inter-Korean joint liaison office channel by saying, "This morning, the start-of-work call was conducted normally, but there was no particular mention from North Korea."
Regarding North Korea's launch of an unidentified projectile into the East Sea, the official said, "We will organize our position based on the military's situation assessment," adding, "The Ministry of Unification will not express a position on this matter before the military's evaluation is released," showing a cautious stance.
However, the official only stated that "the denuclearization of the Korean Peninsula, the establishment of peace, and the development of inter-Korean relations are joint goals agreed upon by both Koreas, and dialogue and cooperation between the two Koreas are the best ways to advance these goals," which is the government's basic recognition.
