[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Jung-yoon] Rapper Noel (21, real name Jang Yong-jun), who is accused of driving without a license, refusing a breathalyzer test, and assaulting a police officer, has been handed over to the prosecution.
According to the police on the 19th, the Seocho Police Station in Seoul sent Jang to prosecution under custody on the same day on charges including refusal of breathalyzer test, driving without a license, injury, and obstruction of official duties.
Jang is accused of driving a Mercedes-Benz vehicle and causing a collision with another car near the St. Mary's Hospital intersection in Banpo-dong, Seocho-gu, Seoul, around 10:30 p.m. on the 18th of last month, refusing the breathalyzer test requested by the responding police officers, and headbutting a police officer.
The police applied the "Yoon Chang-ho Act," which stipulates that those caught more than twice for drunk driving or refusal of breathalyzer tests shall be sentenced to imprisonment for not less than 2 years and not more than 5 years or fined between 10 million and 20 million won, and sent him to the prosecution.
Jang did not attend the pre-trial detention hearing held at the Seoul Central District Court on the 12th, stating, "I will forgo the hearing with a repentant heart," and was detained on the same day.
A passenger, identified as A, who was riding in the car with Jang, was also sent to prosecution without detention on charges of aiding unlicensed driving.
