[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] Apple has unveiled additional colors for its smart speaker, the HomePod mini.
On the 18th (local time), Apple held a special streaming event at its headquarters, Apple Park, in Cupertino, California, USA, announcing the addition of three new colors: Yellow, Orange, and Blue. With these new colors, the total color options now include five, adding to the existing White and Space Gray.
Bob Borchers, Apple’s Vice President of Marketing, stated, “The HomePod mini is an essential smart speaker for iPhone users, tightly integrated with Apple devices. The HomePod mini, now available in vibrant new colors, fits into more places, delivers amazing sound, powerful Siri capabilities, simple and secure smart home control, all while keeping your privacy safe.”
The HomePod mini uses computational audio to provide a rich and detailed acoustic experience. Apple’s S5 chip runs advanced software to analyze the unique characteristics of music, delivering grand sound from a compact design.
Apple-designed acoustic waveguides direct the sound flow downward through the bottom of the speaker, creating a 360-degree immersive audio experience. This design allows the HomePod mini to deliver rich sound from every angle, no matter where it is placed in a room. When placed in multiple rooms, users can listen to the same music throughout the house or enjoy different music in each room.
The HomePod mini is designed to work with popular music services including Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, Apple Music 1 station, thousands of radio stations, Pandora, and Deezer. When listening to music or podcasts or during calls, users can simply bring their iPhone close to the HomePod mini to connect the audio.
Utilizing the AI assistant Siri, the HomePod mini offers a personalized experience for iPhone customers. Siri recognizes the voices of up to six family members, suggesting music and podcasts tailored to each person’s preferences, reading messages, reminders, notes, calendar appointments, and handling personal requests such as making and receiving calls.
The price remains $99 (approximately 118,000 KRW), the same as the previously released model, and sales will begin in November in the US and other existing markets. The release date in Korea is yet to be determined.
