[Asia Economy Reporter Yoon Seul-gi] A teenager who fled the scene after hitting a person while riding an electric scooter without a license was sentenced to a fine.

The Daejeon District Court Criminal Division 6 (Presiding Judge Kim Taek-woo) announced on the 18th that it sentenced A (19) to a fine of 15 million won on charges of violating the Act on the Aggravated Punishment, etc. of Specific Crimes (hit-and-run causing injury) and others.

The court stated, "The extent of the victim's injuries is not minor and is unforgivable," and added, "The defendant denies the charges, claiming that another electric scooter user may have caused the accident."

It continued, "The victim's testimony is consistent and credible, and when examining the surroundings before and after the time of the accident, the defendant is the only person who passed in the direction pointed out by the victim," and explained the sentencing by saying, "Considering various circumstances, the criminal facts can be acknowledged."

Earlier, A is accused of riding an electric scooter without a motor vehicle license on a bicycle-only road in Yuseong-gu, Daejeon, at 3:29 p.m. on July 4 last year, overtaking the bicycle of victim B (60) passing ahead, turning right, and colliding with the bicycle, causing injury.

A fled the scene without providing first aid to B, who reportedly suffered injuries including a left clavicle shaft fracture, resulting in seven weeks of injury.

In court, A denied causing the accident, claiming that another electric scooter user might have been responsible.
