[Asia Economy Reporter Jeong Hyunjin] Samsung Electronics Service announced on the 19th that it has provided educational support funds totaling 24 million KRW to 80 low-income multicultural family youths.
The educational support fund sponsorship is a program where employees voluntarily raise donations to alleviate the academic difficulties faced by multicultural family youths due to economic reasons, and the company matches these donations as a matching grant. Starting last year with support for 50 multicultural family youths in the Gyeonggi region, this year the program has expanded to cover 80 youths nationwide.
Additionally, at the Global Youth Dream Center in Suwon, Gyeonggi Province, a three-month IT utilization education course called the "Vision Class" has been operating since the 14th of last month, targeting multicultural family youths. This program involves Samsung Electronics Service professional instructors volunteering their talents to teach the use of office programs such as PowerPoint and Excel, as well as basic computer maintenance.
A Samsung Electronics Service official stated, "In a situation where non-face-to-face capabilities such as IT utilization skills have become increasingly important due to COVID-19, the purpose is to provide practical help to multicultural family youths in their academic and employment competitiveness," adding, "The students are also actively participating in the education."
Samsung Electronics Service also supports psychological counseling and treatment for children from multicultural families. Since last year, about 100 elementary school students from multicultural families annually have been receiving psychological stability through professional psychological counseling and music and art therapy programs supported by Samsung Electronics Service.
Kim Jeong-hoon, Executive Director and Head of the Win-Win Team overseeing Samsung Electronics Service’s social contribution activities, said, "We hope to be of some help to children from multicultural families in nurturing their dreams," and added, "Samsung Electronics Service will actively promote various social contribution activities to give back to society the love received from customers."
