Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education Ranks 7th Overall in National Sports Festival

[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Jun-kyung] Jeonnam Provincial Office of Education announced on the 18th that it won a total of 57 medals (21 gold, 15 silver, 21 bronze) and ranked 7th overall at the '102nd National Sports Festival' held in the Gyeongbuk area.

At this festival, cyclist Kim Chae-yeon (2nd year at Jeonnam Sports High School) won her first gold medal, achieving a triple crown and adding two bronze medals, earning a total of five medals.

Also, Jo Min-jae (2nd year at Jeonnam Sports High School), who had achieved a triple crown for three consecutive years at the Youth Sports Festival, won a triple crown at the National Sports Festival, which was his first participation.

Roller skater Lee Yoo-jin (2nd year at Yeosu Chungmu High School) won two crowns, including a gold medal in the high school girls' Speed 1000m O.R and setting a new tournament record in the Sprint 500m+D event.

In particular, the outstanding performance of Jeonnam Sports High School stood out. Jeonnam Sports High School won 31 of the 57 medals earned by the Jeonnam team, proving to be a cradle for nurturing sports talents in Jeonnam.

In athletics, they won 4 gold medals, 2 silver medals, and 5 bronze medals.

Jo Young-rae, Director of the Department of Physical Education, Health, and Arts, said, “This is a time when the driving force of Jeonnam sports is at risk due to the decrease in the school-age population and athlete base in Jeonnam,” adding, “We will consider policies to lower the entry barriers for general students into sports and strive to revitalize elementary school physical education to expand the foundation of basic sports.”
