"Stamps Were Issued During the Korean War Too"… Meet Them at the 2021 Korea Stamp Exhibition

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] The Ministry of Science and ICT's Korea Post announced on the 18th that it will hold the "2021 Korea Stamp Exhibition" online from the 25th of this month to the 7th of next month.

Under the slogan "Stamps Speak of a Sustainable World," this exhibition will be held online again this year, considering the social changes caused by COVID-19. The theme is "Again[re...]," and through a special exhibition, it conveys the sustainable values and messages of hope that Korean stamps can embody amid the COVID-19 situation.

This stamp exhibition consists of an opening session, a stamp artwork exhibition hall, and two special theme halls. A total of 136 excellent stamp artworks, including major award-winning pieces, will be displayed. In particular, visitors can see the "Korea 2nd Regular Stamps," which feature 22 types of Korean stamps issued during the Korean War (1951-1953). This work was selected as the grand prize winner (Prime Minister's Award), and on the day of the event, a non-face-to-face curation explaining the artwork will be conducted via YouTube live broadcast.

In the special exhibition hall, under the theme "Again[re...]," three themes are presented, allowing visitors to experience postal culture content utilizing digital technology. "Restart," representing hope revisited, delivers messages of hope through the On-gi Workshop stamp donation and reading letters. "Recycle," representing resources circulating again, conducts activities such as the Stamp Earth Keeper Challenge using Instagram's augmented reality (AR) filters, conveying the Green New Deal and Korea Post's ESG messages. "Remake," representing the recreation of stamp culture, offers various events and experiences such as finding hidden stamps in the metaverse and creating stamp card news, allowing visitors to feel the postal culture.

To encourage stamp collecting and promote stamp culture during the exhibition period, commemorative stamps and illustrated postcards will be issued. Four Korean picture books recognized for their historical significance and artistic value (Baekdusan Story, Neok Jeom Ban, Manhee's House, and Children of Donggang) are featured in the "Stamp Hobby Week Commemorative Stamps 4 types (672,000 sheets)." Additionally, to emphasize the environmental, social responsibility, and governance (ESG) messages conveyed by the stamp exhibition, "Endangered Species Protection Illustrated Postcards 2 types" (52,400 sheets) will be issued.

Commemorative stamps and illustrated postcards can be purchased by visiting nearby post offices or applying through the Internet Post Office.
