Democratic Party of Korea Simultaneously Launches Task Forces on 'Hwacheon Daeyu' and 'Gobal Sajoo'

[Asia Economy Reporter Song Seung-seop] The Democratic Party of Korea simultaneously launched two task forces (TF) on the 17th to address the Daejang-dong development corruption and the allegations of complaint manipulation.

On this day, under the leadership of Representative Song Young-gil, the Democratic Party held consecutive meetings at the National Assembly for the ‘Hwacheon Daeyu Construction Corruption Investigation TF’ and the ‘Complaint Manipulation National Disorder Investigation TF’ with a one-hour interval. Both TFs were established after the party absorbed the organization within Lee Jae-myung’s Democratic Party presidential primary campaign on the 13th.

The Hwacheon Daeyu TF leader and deputy leader were assigned to Representative Kim Byung-wook and Representative So Byung-chul, respectively, while the Complaint Manipulation TF was led by Representative Park Joo-min and Deputy Leader Representative Min Byung-duk. Both TFs operate directly under the party leader, with Representative Song in command.

Representative Song stated, “A person named Kim Man-bae introduced former special prosecutor Park Young-soo as a lawyer to the company,” adding, “Former Prosecutor General Yoon worked with former special prosecutor Park Young-soo from the Central Investigation Department to the special prosecutor’s office. They are like brothers, united as one.” It is known that Special Prosecutor Park defended a Busan Savings Bank official who provided a project financing loan worth approximately 110 billion KRW for the Daejang-dong project in 2011, arranged by Kim Man-bae, the major shareholder of Hwacheon Daeyu.

Regarding Son Jun-sung, then the Investigation Information Policy Officer, and two prosecutors who were identified as having written the complaint on someone else’s behalf, Representative Song said, “The three must be immediately summoned, detained, and their backers revealed,” adding, “There is no explanation other than that writing the complaint on behalf of someone else is an act of loyalty to former Prosecutor General Yoon, with the expectation of guaranteed benefits if things go well.”
