Samsung Youth SW Academy Opens Recruitment for 7th Batch... Largest Ever Selection of 1,150 Trainees

[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Samsung announced on the 17th that it will recruit 1,150 students for the 7th class of the 'Samsung Youth SW Academy (SSAFY)' from the 25th of this month until the 8th of next month.

SSAFY is a social contribution program implemented by Samsung as part of the 'Economic Revitalization and Job Creation Plan' announced in August 2018, aimed at expanding the domestic IT ecosystem base and enhancing youth employment competitiveness.

SSAFY, a representative public-private cooperation program hosted by Samsung and sponsored by the Ministry of Employment and Labor, contributes to activating youth employment. The 7th class, which will enter the one-year course starting in January next year, will select the largest number ever with 1,150 students.

SSAFY recruits students twice a year, steadily increasing the number of students since the first class of 500 in December 2018. From next year, the recruitment scale will be increased to 1,150 students per class, educating 2,300 students annually. Not only Samsung Electronics but also Samsung Display, Samsung SDS, Samsung SDI, Samsung Electro-Mechanics, and S-1 will participate in SSAFY operations and plan to expand corporate-linked projects for students.

SSAFY trains software developers equipped with capabilities to be immediately deployed in companies through intensive SW education totaling 1,600 hours over one year with 8 hours daily, and practical projects through collaboration among students.

To help students develop practical SW skills, opportunities such as corporate-linked practical projects, mentoring by excellent IT company developers, and participation in domestic SW conferences are provided. All courses are free, and every student receives a monthly education support fund of 1 million KRW.

Unemployed individuals under 29 years old who are graduates or expected graduates of a 4-year university can apply for SSAFY regardless of their major. Youth wishing to apply for SSAFY can register through the website.

Students can receive education at one of five campuses nationwide: Seoul, Daejeon, Gwangju, Gumi, and Bu-Ul-Gyeong (located in Busan). Students at the Daejeon, Gwangju, Gumi, and Bu-Ul-Gyeong campuses can apply for the 'National Tomorrow Learning Card' and receive government training incentives supported by the Ministry of Employment and Labor.
