World-Renowned Cyber Experts and Law Enforcement Agencies Gather... 'International Cybercrime Response Symposium' Held

[Asia Economy Reporter Lee Gwan-joo] The National Police Agency announced on the 17th that it will hold the '2021 International Cybercrime Response Symposium' online for five days from the 18th to the 22nd of this month.

The International Cybercrime Response Symposium is a global-scale international conference on cybercrime law enforcement agencies hosted annually by the National Police Agency. Since its first event in 2000, this year marks the 22nd symposium.

At this symposium, domestic and international scholars, experts, and law enforcement officials will serve as presenters on major cybercrime issues such as advanced cyber attacks including hacking and ransomware, internet fraud such as electronic financial scams, cyber sex crimes, and concealment of criminal proceeds using virtual assets and the darknet.

First, in the 'Special Session,' KAIST Chair Professor Jung Ha-woong, an authority on complex networks, will share insights on big data and privacy, and Kim Kwang-ho, Director of the Cyber Investigation Bureau of the National Police Agency, will present a blueprint for international cyber cooperation through an analysis of ransomware investigation cases.

Additionally, 22 specialized lectures are prepared. Domestically, the National Police Agency, CoinDesk Korea, Korea Internet & Security Agency, Korea Institute of Criminology and Justice Policy, NSHC, and S2W Lab will participate. Internationally, major international organizations such as INTERPOL and the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN), law enforcement agencies from the United States, the United Kingdom, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Netherlands, Mexico, and global companies such as Microsoft, Chainalysis, and Coinbase will actively participate.

The National Police Agency plans to conduct various video conferences with overseas law enforcement agencies, international organizations, and leading global information technology companies before and after the symposium to derive concrete and practical cooperation outcomes.

Kim Chang-ryong, Commissioner of the National Police Agency, emphasized, "As digital innovation and the non-face-to-face society expand the realm of life into cyberspace, various crimes are spreading across borders at a very rapid pace. In step with the changing world, the Korean police will make greater efforts to create a safe cyber environment where our citizens and, furthermore, people worldwide can feel secure."
