[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] Do you know about the ‘Taxpayer Protection Officer’? If you have been charged a high amount of ‘tax,’ go find them.
Ulsan City has launched a campaign to promote the ‘Taxpayer Protection Officer System’ to resolve local tax grievances.
The Taxpayer Protection Officer is a system dedicated to handling local tax grievance cases, requests for rights protection, tax consultations, and other tasks to protect taxpayers' rights.
Since 2019, Ulsan City has assigned Taxpayer Protection Officers to assist in resolving local tax grievances.
By the end of September this year, they handled a total of 739 cases, including 35 grievance cases, 4 requests for extension of tax audit periods, 3 requests for rights protection, and 697 other rights protection cases, resulting in a refund of 138 million KRW.
Additionally, this ‘Protection Officer’ was the first nationwide to provide prior guidance on acquisition tax reporting and payment for user lease vehicles, preventing taxpayers from unfairly bearing additional taxes due to retroactive taxation without prior notice from tax authorities.
Ulsan City plans to actively promote the Taxpayer Protection Officer system, which has been playing a significant role in resolving local tax grievances, through the Ulsan City website and electronic billboards from October to November for two months, so that citizens can easily utilize and receive help from it.
To meet them, you can call or visit the Taxpayer Protection Officers at Ulsan City or district/county offices for consultation.
An official from Ulsan City said, “Through the local tax Taxpayer Protection Officer system, we will protect taxpayers’ rights and actively resolve grievances related to tax administration. If you have any local tax-related grievances, do not hesitate and use the Taxpayer Protection Officer system.”
