Over 1,000 Daily COVID-19 Cases for 101 Consecutive Days Since July 7

[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] The spread of COVID-19 in South Korea is showing no signs of slowing down. As of 6 p.m. on the 15th, the number of confirmed cases decreased by 11 compared to the previous day, but still exceeded 1,000.
According to health authorities, Seoul city, and other local governments, from midnight to 6 p.m. nationwide, a total of 1,306 new COVID-19 positive cases were confirmed. This is 11 fewer than the 1,317 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.
It is expected that the number of new confirmed cases will increase further by midnight, when the count closes, reaching the 1,600 range. On the previous day, 367 additional cases were reported after 6 p.m., closing at a total of 1,684 cases.
The resurgence of COVID-19, which began in early July, has continued for more than three months. The number of confirmed cases has remained in the four digits for 101 consecutive days since July 7.
However, the number of confirmed cases has stayed below 2,000 throughout the week. From the 9th to the 15th, the daily new confirmed cases were 1,953 → 1,594 → 1,297 → 1,347 → 1,583 → 1,939 → 1,684, respectively.
Once again, confirmed cases were concentrated in the Seoul metropolitan area. There were 1,030 cases (78.9%) confirmed in the metropolitan area, while 276 cases (21.1%) were reported outside the metropolitan area. By city and province, Seoul had the highest number with 480 cases, followed by Gyeonggi with 460, Incheon 90, Chungbuk 57, Gyeongbuk 50, Daegu 42, Chungnam 26, Busan 22, Jeonnam 19, Gyeongnam 15, Gangwon 13, Jeonbuk 12, Jeju 7, Daejeon 6, Gwangju 4, Ulsan 2, and Sejong 1.
Looking at major infection cases, cluster infections continued in everyday living spaces such as apartment complexes and language institutes. In an apartment complex in Dongjak-gu, Seoul, since the 1st of this month, a total of 54 people tested positive for COVID-19, including 47 residents, 5 workers, and 2 family members. At a language institute in Goyang-si, Gyeonggi Province, since the 11th, a total of 23 COVID-19 cases have been confirmed, including 11 students.
