[Asia Economy Reporter Minwoo Lee] Sungkyunkwan University Graduate School of Global Entrepreneurship, a specialized graduate school for startups, is recruiting new students for the first semester of the 2022 academic year.
Sungkyunkwan University Graduate School of Global Entrepreneurship announced on the 14th that it is accepting applications for new students for the first semester of the 2022 academic year until the 25th. Eligibility includes those who have obtained a bachelor's degree from a domestic or international regular university (4-year program) or those expected to obtain it by February 2022. Applicants with equivalent academic qualifications to a bachelor's degree holder may also apply. Preference is given to prospective entrepreneurs, holders of technology patents, employees of startup-related organizations, winners of startup competitions, and those with startup ideas in the Fourth Industrial Revolution technology fields. Applications can be submitted through the Uway Apply platform.
The Graduate School of Global Entrepreneurship at Sungkyunkwan University started in September 2014 as a national policy graduate school under the Ministry of SMEs and Startups. It offers a curriculum that integrates theory and practice, divided into majors in Entrepreneurship and Startup Consulting, providing a systematic curriculum step-by-step from entrepreneurial spirit and business models to startup growth.
The Entrepreneurship major focuses on education specialized in Fourth Industrial Revolution technology fields, teaching the competencies needed at each stage of the startup process. It has also signed a joint operation agreement for a collaborative graduate school with the Ministry of SMEs and Startups and Draper University in the United States. Selected students from the Entrepreneurship major participate in the joint graduate school program, which offers local education and training in Silicon Valley, USA. Additionally, students can utilize the infrastructure of the startup support group affiliated with the university.
The Startup Consulting major cultivates expertise as consultants by learning the theory and practice necessary for companies, from new product development, production, and organizational management to growth strategies. Students can participate in consulting and mentoring linked to startup support group projects and receive support for external education and certification related to startups, such as becoming a startup instructor.
Current students and alumni have already founded over 40 startups, achieving sales of 30 billion KRW last year. Furthermore, among the 20 students admitted in the first semester of 2021, 10 were selected for programs such as Google Launchpad, Pre-TIPS, and the Preliminary Startup Package.
All new students receive scholarships for the first semester (10-50%). Activity scholarships are awarded for serving as teaching assistants or research assistants, and various benefits are provided through the alumni association scholarships and hosting of internal startup competitions. Students can also participate in startup research groups, student associations, and global competency enhancement programs.
