[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunseok Yoo] Seongho Jeon, CEO of SoluM, received the Presidential Award at the opening ceremony of the ‘2021 SoBuJang Root Technology Exhibition’ hosted by the Ministry of Trade, Industry and Energy on the 13th.
According to SoluM on the 14th, the ‘SoBuJang Root Technology Exhibition,’ now in its 11th year, is held annually by the government to strengthen the competitiveness of the SoBuJang (materials, parts, and equipment) and root industries. Government awards are given to contributors to the development of SoBuJang to commend their achievements.
CEO Seongho Jeon received the Presidential Award for boldly declaring a policy to internalize semiconductor core components with high external dependence, decisively making investment decisions, and leading the entire process from securing key semiconductor development personnel, technology development and productization, to market entry.
He achieved results by persuading client companies that preferred foreign semiconductor components to recognize the technical excellence and reliability of SoluM’s components and adopt their products. Through this, he is evaluated to have greatly contributed to pioneering the global market by domesticating core semiconductors with high external dependence.
Furthermore, efforts to secure future parts markets by enhancing semiconductor technological competitiveness continue, achieving early releases of three types of world’s smallest and low-power specialized sensors, and entering healthcare and automotive electronics markets, thereby pioneering major markets such as China. He plans to continuously contribute to maintaining the global competitiveness of domestic parts in the future.
Along with technology development, SoluM actively implements policies that respond to national policies such as job creation, talent development, and employee welfare improvement. Since the company’s establishment, it has continuously created jobs, increasing the number of domestic employees from 274 in 2015 to 430 this year, a 57% increase.
The company has hired 57 specialized high school (Meister high school) personnel. They participate in the Work-Learning Dual System (Korea University of Technology and Education), actively encouraging and fostering the acquisition of bachelor’s degrees. This year, 16 people graduated for the first time and obtained bachelor’s degrees, and 8 are currently enrolled.
Additionally, the company provides 100% tuition support for employees’ children from kindergarten through university regardless of the number of children. It also operates high-level welfare programs for employees, including real medical expense reimbursement through group accident insurance for employees and their families, comprehensive health checkups and life-cycle checkups for employees and their spouses.
CEO Seongho Jeon said, “This award is a great achievement recognizing our company’s technological capabilities externally,” and added, “We will continue to develop core technologies and become a company that contributes to strengthening the global competitiveness of domestic parts and improving the trade balance.”
