[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] The number of new COVID-19 cases in South Korea approached 2,000 on the 14th.
The Central Disease Control Headquarters (CDCH) announced that as of midnight on the 14th, 1,940 new COVID-19 cases were confirmed domestically, bringing the total to 337,679. Of these, 1,924 were locally transmitted and 16 were imported cases.
By region, Seoul reported 745 cases, Gyeonggi 684, and Incheon 141, totaling 1,570 cases (81.6%) in the metropolitan area.
Non-metropolitan areas reported a total of 354 cases (18.4%), including 47 each in Busan, Chungbuk, and Chungnam; 45 each in Daegu and Gyeongbuk; 33 in Gyeongnam; 22 in Gangwon; 19 in Jeonnam; 16 in Jeonbuk; 10 in Gwangju; 8 in Jeju; 6 each in Daejeon and Ulsan; and 3 in Sejong.
Among the 16 imported cases, one was detected during quarantine, and the remaining 15 were identified in the community. Four were Korean nationals and 12 were foreigners.
The death toll increased by 13 the previous day, bringing the total to 2,618, with a fatality rate of 0.78%. The number of critically ill patients is 371.
The number of newly released from isolation increased by 1,653, bringing the total to 303,719.
The number of suspected cases tested was 43,949. At temporary screening clinics set up in the metropolitan area, 75,334 tests were conducted, confirming 641 positive cases. In non-metropolitan temporary screening clinics, 8,525 tests were conducted, identifying 28 positive cases. The total number of tests conducted was 127,808.
According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team, 56,619 people received their first dose the previous day, bringing the total number of first-dose recipients to 40,185,703. The vaccination rate for the first dose relative to the population is 78.3%. Among those aged 18 and over, 91% have completed their first dose.
On the previous day, 407,096 people completed their vaccination, bringing the total number of fully vaccinated individuals to 31,625,104, with a vaccination rate of 61.6% relative to the population.
