[Asia Economy Reporter Na Ye-eun] Recently, a woman in Canada made headlines when a meteorite fell next to her head while she was sleeping.
According to CBC and other local media on the 12th (local time), Ruth Hamilton, a woman living in the city of Golden, British Columbia, Canada, woke up on the night of the 3rd to the sound of a dog barking and found a black rock fallen right next to her pillow.
The fallen rock was about the size of a watermelon, and there was a hole in the roof directly above the bed.
Hamilton explained the situation, saying, "As soon as I opened my eyes, I heard a huge explosion, and fragments flew all over my face. I turned on the light and didn’t know what to do, so I called emergency services."
At first, she thought the meteorite was just a rock, but after the police arrived following her report and investigated the area, they informed her that a cluster of meteorites had fallen that same night.
Later, Hamilton contacted the Department of Astronomy at Western University in London, Ontario, and the university confirmed that the rock was indeed a meteorite that had fallen from space.
Peter Brown, a professor in the Department of Astronomy at the university, said, "We plan to analyze the meteorite as soon as we receive it. We expect to identify the type of meteorite next month." He added, "It is highly likely that the meteorite came from the main asteroid belt of the solar system."
He also explained, "This is not the first case of a meteorite falling onto a household bed. A similar incident occurred in Indonesia about a year ago."
Meanwhile, Hamilton stated that she plans to keep the meteorite personally once the university’s research is completed.
