[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Yoon Jamin] The '5·18 Education Nationalization Project' was highlighted at the National Assembly Education Committee's audit session, generating consensus on the need for historical education exchange and cooperation with other education offices.
Yoon Young-deok, a member of the National Assembly (Democratic Party of Korea, Gwangju Dongnam-gap), cited the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education's '5·18 Democratization Movement Education Job Training' as a model case of educational autonomy during the audit held on the 12th targeting education offices.
The '5·18 Education Nationalization Project' is a program initiated by the Gwangju Metropolitan Office of Education since 2018 to strengthen school democracy capabilities and foster democratic citizens through the nationwide education of the 5·18 Democratization Movement.
The main contents include operating job training for teachers nationwide on the 5·18 Democratization Movement education and conducting experiential learning for students across the country.
In particular, this year's '5·18 Democratization Movement Education Job Training' is highly popular, with 487 applicants from 15 cities and provinces nationwide.
Assemblyman Yoon introduced one of the 5·18 Democratization Movement education kits, the 'Jeonnam Provincial Government Office 3D Puzzle,' and the '5·18 Democratization Movement Authorized Textbook,' which has been distributed in over 16,000 copies nationwide this year.
He added, "Regional histories such as the Jeju 4·3 Uprising, Daegu 2·28 Democracy Movement, the Busan-Gyeongnam 3·15 Uprising, and the Buma Uprising should also be spread nationwide like Gwangju Office of Education's '5·18 Nationalization Project' to achieve multidimensional history education."
