[Asia Economy Reporter Heo Midam] As the first anniversary of the death of a 16-month-old child due to abuse by adoptive parents in the "Jeongin Case" approaches, a campaign to prevent the recurrence of child abuse related to this case is set to be held.
On the 13th, the Ijesuk Advertising Research Institute announced, "We are preparing a poster campaign to mark the first anniversary of the Jeongin Case," adding, "Under the theme 'The Wounds of a Crumpled Heart,' we plan to crumple the posters and attach them to the walls."
The revealed posters are crumpled in various directions to the extent that the children's expressions are unrecognizable. At the bottom of the poster, the phrase "Wounds crumpled by abuse do not easily smooth out" is written.
The institute explained the purpose of the campaign, saying, "We want to remind people once again that the distorted expressions of children cannot be completely smoothed out like paper." This means that the fear and terror experienced in childhood are not easily forgotten even when one becomes an adult.
Meanwhile, the "Jeongin Case" is a child abuse murder case that occurred in Yangcheon-gu, Seoul. The adoptive mother, Jang Mo (35), was charged with habitual assault and abuse of Jeongin from June to October last year, and for delivering a strong blow to the abdomen on October 13 of the same year, causing her death (child abuse homicide). She was sentenced to life imprisonment in the first trial. The adoptive father, Ahn Mo (38), who was accused of neglecting the abuse, was also charged with child abuse and sentenced to five years in prison.
The case gained national outrage after being publicized through SBS's "Unanswered Questions" broadcast. Some civic groups urged the court to apply murder charges to Jang before the first trial was held.
Additionally, a Blue House petition demanding that the adoptive parents be charged with murder rather than child abuse homicide received over 200,000 signatures. Furthermore, a memorial atmosphere continued with the hashtag campaign "#JeonginI'mSorry" spreading on social media at the time.
The adoptive parents of Jeongin are expected to receive the appellate court's verdict by the end of November. It has been reported that more than 10,000 petitions and letters requesting severe punishment for Jang and Ahn have been submitted to the appellate court.
