[Asia Economy Reporter Donghyun Choi] French publisher Gallimard has released a carousel pop-up book to commemorate the 75th anniversary of the publication of The Little Prince.
This book will be published simultaneously worldwide. In Korea, the literary publisher that first published The Little Prince as a standalone book presents a vivid and warm translation that preserves the beauty of the original work by French literature scholar Jeon Seongja.
The The Little Prince carousel pop-up book can be tied with a ribbon by matching the front and back covers, allowing it to be viewed by rotating 360 degrees like a carousel. It can be hung from the ceiling or window as a mobile decoration, and when placed on a table with soft lighting, it becomes a stylish interior accessory. The design was created by G?rard Lo Monaco, Europe's top pop-up book craftsman.
When you open this book, six of the most beloved scenes from The Little Prince magically unfold. The intricate pop-up mechanism, created by layering backgrounds, produces rich three-dimensionality and vividness, while Saint-Exup?ry's beautiful watercolors spin around, blending light and shadow to create a fantastic image. Both the The Little Prince carousel pop-up book and its packaging box use eco-friendly paper certified by the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC) to protect forest resources and the environment.
When thinking of The Little Prince, everyone naturally recalls Saint-Exup?ry's original illustrations. Even today, countless artists and illustrators worldwide draw various and new versions of the Little Prince inspired by the story. However, none surpass the emotional impact of the image of the Little Prince, Saint-Exup?ry's unadorned and sincere alter ego. Saint-Exup?ry paid as much attention to the illustrations as to the text during the manuscript writing process and is said to have actively participated in the book's editing, stating, "I know exactly what kind of pictures I want to include." His delicate and elegant watercolors perfectly and beautifully embody the pure and clear soul of the Little Prince and the world he encounters, as the author intended.
