Namwon-si to Host 'Hanbok Culture Autumn Week' at Gwanghallu Garden Area

[Namwon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Jeong Young-kwon] Jeonbuk Namwon City (Mayor Lee Hwan-joo) announced on the 12th that it will hold the ‘Namwon Hanbok Culture Autumn Week’ at Gwanghallu Garden from the 15th of this month until next month.

The ‘Hanbok Culture Week’ is an event presenting various hanbok-related programs to spread the culture of wearing hanbok in daily life, held twice a year in spring and autumn weeks.

This autumn week is hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism and organized by the Korea Craft & Design Foundation Hanbok Promotion Center, Namwon City, and Namwon Tourism Council.

Following the spring week, the city has prepared diverse events combining hanbok and local culture, including a ‘Hanbok Listening and Viewing Event’ cultural performance at Yeruwon Yard.

The ‘Hanbok Listening and Viewing Event’ is a cultural performance combining hanbok and the arts, showcasing the elegance of hanbok through various genres such as jazz, samulnori, vocal music, and dance.

In particular, this performance adds joy by collaborating with hidden artists from the Namwon area.

The ‘Samae Band,’ a rural band formed by talented villagers near Seodo Station, and ‘Yeonhidan Cheongyeon,’ a group of young artists, are hot stars in the region.

The collaboration of Namwon Gugak High School students and their instructors, dressed in splendid hanbok, is expected to present beautiful melodies and the beauty of colorful hanbok.

Additionally, a traditional wedding-themed yard play adds fun to the event.

Set against the backdrop of Gwanseodang, the yard play ‘The Wedding Day’ features the festive atmosphere that once enlivened the whole village and highlights the beauty of the bride and groom in traditional wedding attire.

The wedding clothes from the era when hanbok was everyday wear are prepared to evoke pink-hued memories and excitement.

For those seeking elegant hanbok, a visit to ‘Hwain-dang’ is recommended.

It is equipped with various facilities such as hanbok experience, photo zones, and hanbok-related accessory exhibitions within a vintage traditional hanok.

Here, visitors can experience beautiful hanbok and ornaments as well as the refined attire of Joseon women and scholars, and capture wonderful photos while feeling the atmosphere throughout Gwanghallu Garden.

Hanbok wearers are also offered free admission to Gwanghallu Garden.

This event will be held with thorough quarantine measures and a focus on non-face-to-face formats in accordance with COVID-19 prevention guidelines, and can be accessed through the ‘Namwon Warak’ and ‘Hanbok Promotion Center’ YouTube channels.

A city official said, “The Hanbok Culture Autumn Week will create a new hanbok culture by combining the value of hanbok with local culture and arts, providing an opportunity to enjoy hanbok in daily life.”
