[Akyeong Poll] Ruling Party Presidential Candidate Lee Jae-myung Trails Behind Yoon and Hong

56.5% of Citizens Say "Lee Jae-myung Bears Major Responsibility for Daejang-dong"

[Asia Economy Reporter Naju-seok] More than half of the public believe that Lee Jae-myung, the Democratic Party presidential candidate (former mayor of Seongnam during the development), is responsible for the preferential treatment allegations in the Daejang-dong development project. As this issue has recently gained national attention, Lee's presidential approval ratings have not escaped being weaker compared to former Prosecutor General Yoon Seok-youl and Assemblyman Hong Joon-pyo from the People Power Party.

According to a public opinion poll conducted by Asia Economy through Win-G Korea Consulting from the 9th to 10th, surveying 1,023 voters aged 18 and over nationwide (100% mobile phone virtual numbers, automated response), 56.5% of respondents believe that Lee, who designed the project and had command over Seongnam Urban Development Corporation, bears significant responsibility for the preferential treatment allegations in the Daejang-dong development project in Bundang-gu, Seongnam, Gyeonggi Province. Meanwhile, 34.2% of respondents believe that the People Power Party, which was the ruling party at the time and the majority in the Seongnam City Council that blocked public development, holds significant responsibility.

In a hypothetical one-on-one contest, Lee received 39.6% support against former Prosecutor General Yoon, who received 45.6%, trailing within the margin of error. Against Assemblyman Hong, Lee was at a disadvantage beyond the margin of error (38.6% to 48%). Regarding the next presidential election, the public opinion favoring regime change (51.7%) surpassed that favoring regime continuation (40.5%).

On the other hand, despite controversies over superstition such as the "King (王) character on the palm" and a series of gaffes, former Prosecutor General Yoon maintained solid approval ratings.

In the suitability survey for conservative opposition candidates, former Prosecutor General Yoon ranked first (29.5%→29%), Assemblyman Hong second (33.5%→28.1%), former Assemblyman Yoo Seung-min third (10.1%→13.2%), former Jeju Governor Won Hee-ryong fourth (1.4%→3.9%), and People's Party leader Ahn Cheol-soo fifth (3.7%→3%). The response rate for this survey was 7.1%, and the sample was extracted with weighted values by gender, age, and region based on the resident registration population as of late January from the Ministry of the Interior and Safety. The sampling error is ±3.1 percentage points at a 95% confidence level.
