[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Daehyun] A mystery novel written by former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, set against the backdrop of Afghanistan and other locations, is set to be published.

According to the Associated Press on the 11th (local time), the novel "State of Terror," co-written by former Secretary Clinton and bestselling author Louise Penny, follows the protagonist Ellen Adams, the U.S. Secretary of State, as she struggles to resolve an international terrorist conspiracy involving nuclear weapons. The novel reflects autobiographical elements of former Secretary Clinton throughout.

The protagonist Adams is a surprise appointee as Secretary of State in an administration led by a political rival. Similarly, former Secretary Clinton was appointed Secretary of State in the Barack Obama administration, which was once her political rival.

In the novel, the protagonist views decisions made by the previous administration as "effectively returning Afghanistan to the Taliban and increasing the risk of terrorism." Some have suggested that the character of former President Eric Dunn in the novel evokes former President Donald Trump.

However, former Secretary Clinton recently stated in an interview that the character is not based on former President Trump, nor does it reflect the Obama administration period. The book is scheduled for release on the 12th.
