[Asia Economy Reporter Seo So-jeong] The number of people in South Korea who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine has surpassed 40 million.
The COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team announced on the 11th that, based on a provisional tally as of 4 p.m. that day, the number of people who have received at least one dose of the COVID-19 vaccine exceeded 40 million. This marks the 228th day since vaccinations began on February 26.
The cumulative number of first-dose recipients reached 40,006,549, accounting for 77.9% of the total population and 90.6% of the population aged 18 and over. The number of fully vaccinated individuals was 30,582,010, representing 59.6% of the total population.
The Promotion Team stated, "Thanks to the high interest and active participation of the public, we are gradually moving toward phased daily recovery." They added, "We thank all the citizens who participated, as well as all related personnel including support workers who tirelessly work day and night for vaccine production and delivery, and medical staff who are devoted to vaccinations even during the holidays."
They continued, "The government will prepare to ensure that those who wish to be vaccinated until the very end can do so safely and conveniently." They urged, "Especially from today, unvaccinated individuals can visit medical institutions without prior reservation and receive same-day vaccination with messenger ribonucleic acid (mRNA) vaccines available at the institutions. We strongly encourage unvaccinated people to get vaccinated for their own health, their families, and the safety of their communities."
