Public Hearing to be Held on the Afternoon of the 12th... 136 Billion KRW to be Invested from 2023 to 2026 for the Creation of Science Experience Center and Science Yard
[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Bong-su] The project to establish a Complex Science Experience Land at the National Science Museum in Daejeon is set to accelerate.
On the afternoon of the 12th, the National Science Museum will hold a public hearing on the basic plan for the Complex Science Experience Land project at the Daejeon Daedeok Tech-Biz Center. At this public hearing, the main contents of the basic project plan will be presented, and public opinion will be gathered through panel discussions involving industry, academia, research institutes, and government representatives.
With a total project cost of 136 billion KRW, a Science Experience Center and Science Yard will be constructed near the current customer parking lot of the National Science Museum. The project period is four years, from 2023 to 2026. The site area is 43,710㎡, and the total floor area of the Science Experience Center will be 26,480㎡, consisting of one basement floor and four above-ground floors. The Science Experience Center will house the Next-Generation Science Experience Hall, an interactive Science Library, and a Public R&D Promotion and Experience Hall. The Science Yard will include an Energy Farm Play Area and a Creative Science Play Area.
Since March, research has been underway with the research team from the Industry-Academic Cooperation Foundation of Sookmyung Women’s University to establish the basic plan. Based on regional conditions, capabilities, and opinions from experts across various fields, a draft basic plan has been prepared to gather public feedback.
Six experts from industry, academia, research, and government, including Professor Song Woo-yong of Hanbat National University as the chairperson, will participate as panelists. To prevent the spread of COVID-19, the number of on-site attendees will be limited to fewer than 30 people, while the public hearing will also be broadcast live online via the National Science Museum’s official YouTube channel. Various opinions will be collected through Q&A sessions with both on-site attendees and YouTube viewers. Additionally, the contents discussed at the public hearing will be reflected, and further opinions will be gathered through the website until the end of this month. The basic plan for the Complex Science Experience Land is scheduled to be finalized by the end of the year.
