Selected 495 Asian Talents from 32 Countries Over 17 Years... Contributing to the Development of Asian Global Leaders
[Asia Economy Reporter Hwang Yoon-joo] The POSCO Cheongam Foundation announced the final list of 50 successful candidates for the 2022 Asian Students Korean Study Scholarship last month.
The 50 selected Asian scholarship students are scheduled to enroll in master's and doctoral programs at domestic graduate schools next year. The POSCO Cheongam Foundation will support them with full tuition fees for up to three years and a monthly living allowance of 1 million KRW.
The POSCO Cheongam Foundation conducts the entire selection process in cooperation with POSCO Group’s local subsidiaries in the Asian region to select outstanding Asian students.
In particular, this year, to select excellent talents, intensive promotional activities were carried out using SNS platforms such as Facebook, Instagram, YouTube, and scholarship student networks in each country. As a result, a total of 2,027 applicants from 31 countries applied, recording a high competition rate of about 40 to 1.
Subsequently, online interviews were conducted remotely for 140 candidates who passed the document screening, and after the final evaluation, 50 outstanding talents from 15 countries?the largest number ever?were selected.
Meanwhile, starting this year, the POSCO Cheongam Foundation plans to expand the scope of support for selected scholarship students. The tuition support period has been extended from a maximum of two years to up to three years depending on the degree program. Additionally, initial settlement funds will be provided to help with settling in Korea, and a new online Korean language training program linked with Sejong Institute will be supported before entering Korea.
Since its inception in 2005, the Asian Students Korean Study Scholarship Program, now in its 17th year, is one of the POSCO Cheongam Foundation’s core projects, providing learning opportunities to 495 Asian students from 32 countries to date. After graduation, many of these students have grown into key mid-level leaders, working as government officials, university professors, as well as in global corporations and media companies in their home countries. Furthermore, alumni associations of POSCO have been formed and are active in countries such as Vietnam, Thailand, and Indonesia, creating success stories as POSCO global corporate citizens in each country.
The POSCO Cheongam Foundation will continue to operate projects to practice 'Life with POSCO (a company creating the future together)' and 'Community with POSCO (a company working with local communities),' which are among the five corporate citizen brand activities embodying the POSCO Group’s vision of being a ‘company people want to be with.’
