"Annual Carbon Reduction of 50 Tons" SK Telecom Issues Mobile Receipts at Stores

[Asia Economy Reporter Eunmo Koo] SK Telecom announced on the 11th that starting in October, receipts that were previously issued on paper to customers who pay fees directly at agencies and branches will be replaced with mobile receipts.

Mobile receipts will be issued via MMS (Multimedia Messaging Service) without a separate application. Customers who wish to receive paper receipts can still request them.

SK Telecom explained that replacing paper receipts with mobile receipts will protect approximately 1,300 30-year-old trees annually and reduce greenhouse gas emissions by about 50 tons.

SK Telecom began issuing billing statements via MMS in 2007 and introduced email and the Smart Billing app. As of October this year, 93% of customers use electronic receipts and billing statements.

SK Telecom analyzed that over the past decade, by issuing electronic receipts and billing statements to replace paper and mail, it has reduced a total of over 6,600 tons of greenhouse gas emissions and protected more than 170,000 30-year-old trees.
