Currently Recruiting Over 950 Headquarters and Store Staff... Additional Hiring of Around 250 Employees in the Second Half of the Year
[Asia Economy Reporter Yuri Kim] Homeplus will increase its workforce at stores by more than 1,000 people this year.
Homeplus announced on the 11th that from March, when the fiscal year began, until last month, it has hired a total of over 950 employees for its headquarters and stores, and plans to additionally recruit around 250 store staff through new college graduate recruitment and other channels within this month.
Excluding about 100 newly hired headquarters employees selected this year, this large-scale recruitment involves adding more than 1,000 store workers, which is equivalent to the combined number of employees working at 4 to 5 large mart stores. Homeplus aims to fill workforce gaps caused by retirements and expand on-site support through store staff recruitment.
From March to last month, approximately 770 new hires have been made for large mart and Homeplus Express store positions. Homeplus stated, "We replenish staff through on-demand recruitment whenever there is a workforce gap at stores, and will select an additional 250 employees by the end of the year." Headquarters personnel with store work experience will also be reassigned to stores in Seoul and the metropolitan area to strengthen communication between headquarters and stores and to cultivate multi-skilled talent.
The newly hired store staff will be converted to regular employees after a one-year full attendance evaluation and will be guaranteed retirement age until 60. Since 2019, Homeplus has maintained a 99% regular employee ratio after becoming the first large mart company in Korea to convert all indefinite contract employees to regular positions.
Hisashi (Hisa) emphasized, "Despite store closures due to asset securitization of some stores, we have maintained 100% employment for all employees," and "we conducted individual interviews with employees of the affected stores and reassigned them to stores within their top three preferences, and provided consolation payments of 3 million KRW to employees of closed stores, thereby implementing practical employment guarantees."
To provide customers with high-quality online and offline shopping experiences, Homeplus is also recruiting experienced mobile planners and developers. Recruitment is underway in eight areas including service planners, search planners, frontend developers, fulfillment developers, and iPhone developers.
Hwang Jeong-hee, Head of Human Resources at Homeplus, said, "Despite the employment downturn, we are conducting an unusually large-scale recruitment with a broad number of hires to actively secure excellent talent for strengthening on-site management," adding, "Based on Homeplus’s stable working environment, we will continuously replenish practical workforce to create a 'mart strong on the ground.'"
