837 People in the Seoul Metropolitan Area (72.7%)
[Asia Economy Reporter Lim Hye-seon] On the 9th, COVID-19 cases surged across the country.
According to the quarantine authorities and local governments, from midnight to 6 p.m. on that day, 1,152 new COVID-19 cases were reported nationwide.
This is 313 fewer than the 1,465 cases recorded at the same time the previous day.
By region, the metropolitan area accounted for 837 cases (72.7%), and non-metropolitan areas accounted for 315 cases (27.3%).
Cases were reported in all 17 cities and provinces nationwide. Seoul had 470 cases, Gyeonggi 277, Incheon 90, Chungbuk 61, Gyeongbuk 45, Daegu 44, Gyeongnam 38, Busan 31, Chungnam 30, Gwangju 17, Gangwon 16, Daejeon 10, Jeju 7, Jeonbuk 6, Jeonnam 4, and Ulsan and Sejong each had 3 cases.
The number of new cases to be announced as of midnight on the 10th is expected to increase further, reaching around 1,700 cases. On the previous day, 488 cases were added after 6 p.m., closing at a total of 1,953 cases.
Major infection cases include hospitals, restaurants, and construction sites. Regarding a hospital in Nowon-gu, Seoul, 28 people including staff, patients, and family members have tested positive since the 6th, and at a restaurant located in Gangnam-gu, a total of 14 people, including 11 staff members, tested positive. At a seminary in Cheongju, Chungbuk, 16 people have tested positive and are currently undergoing treatment.
