[Asia Economy Yeongnam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Kim Yong-woo] The designation of dedicated medical institutions for child abuse in the Ulsan area has been completed.

Ulsan City announced on the 11th that with Dong-gu and Buk-gu designating dedicated medical institutions for child abuse at the end of last September, the designation of dedicated medical institutions for child abuse targeting private medical institutions in the five districts and counties of Ulsan City has been completed.

Following Ulju-gun's designation of four medical institutions including Seoul San Boram Hospital as dedicated medical institutions for child abuse in June, Nam-gu designated five medical institutions including Ulsan Hospital in July, and Jung-gu designated five medical institutions including Donggang Hospital in August.

At the end of last September, Dong-gu designated four institutions including Ulsan University Hospital, and Buk-gu designated three institutions including Ulsan City Hospital, completing agreements for the designation of dedicated medical institutions for child abuse with each district and county across Ulsan, with 3 to 5 medical institutions including overlaps.

An official from Ulsan City said, “Reports of child abuse are increasing, and we are striving to expand the public protection system and respond quickly and efficiently,” adding, “We will continue to actively cooperate with related organizations to further strengthen the child abuse response system.”

‘Dedicated medical institutions for child abuse’ are institutions responsible for counseling, physical and mental treatment, examination, and check-ups for victims of child abuse according to the ‘Child Welfare Act.’

Ulsan City and the districts and counties reflected the recommendations of the Autonomous Police Committee and Ulsan Police Agency and added an agreement for ‘consultation and provision of opinions for child abuse judgment’ in addition to the statutory functions.
