[Asia Economy Reporter Gong Byung-sun] The number of people who have completed COVID-19 vaccination increased by 1.09 million in a single day on the 8th, surpassing a cumulative total of 30 million fully vaccinated individuals.

According to the COVID-19 Vaccination Response Promotion Team (Promotion Team) on the 9th, the number of new first-dose vaccinations the previous day was 43,782, and the number of people who completed the second dose increased by 1,098,170. The total number of new first and second doses administered in one day was 1,141,952.

By vaccine type, the new first-dose vaccinations were 25,667 for Moderna, 15,165 for Pfizer, 2,210 for Janssen, and 740 for AstraZeneca (AZ), in that order. The cumulative first-dose recipients by vaccine are 21,258,920 for Pfizer, 11,096,128 for AZ, and 6,095,342 for Moderna. The cumulative number of Janssen recipients, which requires only one dose, is 1,458,734.

Among the 1,098,170 people who completed their second dose the previous day, 971,638 received Pfizer, 73,234 received Moderna, and 51,088 received AZ. The number of AZ fully vaccinated individuals is counted as 57,492, but among them, 6,404 people received AZ for their first dose and Pfizer for their second dose as a mixed vaccination.

The cumulative number of fully vaccinated individuals by vaccine type is 15,728,410 for Pfizer, 10,660,435 for AZ (including 1,663,430 mixed vaccinations), and 2,474,618 for Moderna. The remainder are Janssen recipients.

The total number of people who have completed both doses is 30,322,197, which corresponds to 59.1% of the total population. Based on the population aged 18 and over, this reaches 68.7%. This record was achieved 224 days after the start of vaccination in Korea on February 26, and it is the 225th day.

The Promotion Team decided to reduce the interval between mRNA vaccines Moderna and Pfizer from the existing 6 weeks to 4-5 weeks starting from the 11th. Previously, reflecting uncertainties in vaccine supply, the Promotion Team temporarily extended the interval between Moderna and Pfizer vaccinations to 6 weeks. Especially for Moderna, whose supply has become smoother, the vaccination interval will be shortened from the current 5-6 weeks to 4-6 weeks starting from the 9th.
