[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Jong-hwa] Premium sofa brand ESSA announced that it will strengthen ESG (Environmental, Social, and Governance) management in preparation for the post-COVID-19 era.

Based on ESG management, ESSA has established itself as the number one fabric sofa brand in sales within just three years of its founding. This achievement was made possible not only by its stylish designs but also by its eco-friendly manufacturing methods, use of premium materials, and highly praised after-sales care services for sofas.

'Eco-friendly Functional Fabric' Considering Both Customers and the Environment

ESSA’s fabric is an eco-friendly material certified with the European 'Oeko-Tex 100 Standard' Class 1 rating and is a perfluorinated compound (PFC) free product. PFC, a harmful substance used to enhance waterproofing and coating functions, has recently been the subject of ongoing toxicity concerns. The fabric used in ESSA sofas is 100% PFC free, making it harmless even with daily skin contact.

Among ESSA’s fabrics, the KASHMIRA fabric is a premium material from Israel recognized globally as a top-class functional fabric. The KASHMIRA fabric received a 99.9% antibacterial efficacy certification from the Korea Testing & Research Institute (FITI). When strains harmful to humans, such as Staphylococcus aureus and Klebsiella pneumoniae, were applied to the KASHMIRA fabric, 99.9% of the bacteria disappeared after 18 hours.

Additionally, ESSA produces sofas that consider both consumers and the environment by using eco-friendly wood made from Nordic birch, eco-friendly E0 grade plywood, and antibacterial fiber cotton that inhibits bacterial growth.

Social Responsibility of a Brand Making Consumer Goods

ESSA uses FSC-certified birch wood in its main products. FSC-certified wood is produced under strict standards to preserve the environment, such as planting young trees equivalent to the amount harvested. The wood used in ESSA sofas is eco-friendly and safe, as no chemical agents are used during processing. Water-based adhesives that are harmless to the human body are used, and the sofa’s bottom finishing materials contain phytoncides to add antibacterial and deodorizing functions.

Park Yoo-jin, CEO of ESSA, stated, "The social responsibility of a brand is to create sustainable and environmentally friendly products," adding, "Our goal is to continue preserving the environment as a consumer goods brand and to make products that customers can use safely for a long time."
