Gas Gong, Construction of Logistics Warehouse Utilizing LNG Cold Energy

[Sejong=Asia Economy Reporter Kwon Haeyoung] Korea Gas Corporation is set to establish the country's first cold chain cluster utilizing 100% liquefied natural gas (LNG) cold energy. LNG cold energy refers to the unused energy generated during LNG vaporization, and Gas Corporation plans to effectively utilize this energy through its LNG cold energy business.

According to Gas Corporation on the 8th, last month it signed a 'shareholders agreement for the establishment of a special purpose company (SPC) for the construction and operation of the Incheon New Port Cold Chain Cluster' with four companies including Incheon Port Authority, EMP Belstar, and Korea Cryogenics, entering the eco-friendly new business utilizing LNG cold energy.

The SPC will build the country's first refrigerated and frozen logistics warehouse utilizing 100% LNG cold energy, capable of storing fresh food, frozen food, and biopharmaceuticals, centered around the Incheon New Port hinterland complex.

The newly established refrigerated and frozen logistics warehouse will use LNG cold energy at minus 162°C to economically and stably store fresh cargo in SF-grade (below minus 60°C), F-grade (below minus 25°C), and C-grade (0 to 10°C) warehouses. Additionally, it will feature a one-stop cold chain for rapid freezing, storage, processing, and distribution, serving as a premium food ingredient storage and fresh delivery distribution hub, thereby enhancing consumer convenience and significantly increasing cargo volume at Incheon Port.

Gas Corporation also plans to discover new business models such as the liquefied hydrogen megastation construction project utilizing LNG cold energy and attracting data centers mainly on idle land near LNG terminals. It will actively promote LNG cold energy utilization projects linked with GTP (Gas to Power) businesses overseas. Furthermore, it plans to actively pursue LNG bunkering business, a convergence business based on LNG, the construction of integrated charging stations capable of charging both hydrogen and LNG vehicles, and overseas GTP projects.

A Gas Corporation official emphasized, "Based on the LNG cold energy infrastructure owned by Gas Corporation and the capabilities accumulated during the Incheon New Port Cold Chain Cluster project, we will establish a unique LNG cold energy business model and expand our business."
