[Asia Economy Reporter Park Hyesook] Namdong-gu, Incheon recently announced on the 7th that it has created a 3-hectare fine dust blocking forest near the 3rd Gyeongin Expressway (763-2 Nonhyeon-dong).
The fine dust blocking forest is a green belt established to prevent harmful substances such as pollution generated from highways from spreading into urban residential areas.
The district has been promoting the creation of fine dust blocking forests in three phases with support from the Korea Forest Service to secure green spaces necessary for improving the urban environment.
After investing 2 billion KRW last year to create a 2-hectare fine dust blocking forest in the Sorae Nonhyeon urban development area, the second phase this year also saw the establishment of a 3-hectare fine dust blocking forest near the 3rd Gyeongin Expressway.
Especially this year, in addition to the fine dust blocking forest consisting of species such as Strobe pine, Korean red pine, and Japanese cypress, seasonal healing paths were created with forests of ginkgo trees, Japanese cypress, Korean maple, and birch trees.
Furthermore, nine species of flowering trees and herbaceous plants including cherry trees, Ipop trees, cornelian cherry trees, and wildflowers (Coreopsis, yellow cosmos) were planted to create beautiful paths, along with rest areas equipped with various types of benches.
The district plans to create a fine dust blocking forest of more than 2 hectares near the Namdong National Industrial Complex next year.
