[Asia Economy Reporter Suyeon Woo] Doosan is building a group advanced technology research and development (R&D) center in Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do. The plan is to gather the group's R&D capabilities, including hydrogen technology research facilities, in one place to maximize synergy in technology development.
Doosan announced on the 7th that it signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) for mutual cooperation with Yongin-si, Gyeonggi-do, to build the group advanced technology R&D center. Doosan plans to secure a new site within this year and aims to complete the construction by 2026. The company has set a goal to prioritize the installation of research facilities conducting hydrogen-related research by the second half of 2022.
The newly established R&D center will bring together divisions responsible for research and development in various fields of the hydrogen business value chain from Doosan Corporation, Doosan Heavy Industries & Construction, Doosan Fuel Cell, and Doosan Mobility Innovation. Additionally, hydrogen technology research facilities, which are currently dispersed across the metropolitan area due to spatial constraints, will be consolidated in one location to create an optimal environment for securing advanced technology.
Including this, the R&D center will gather the group's R&D capabilities that create new growth engines, sharing infrastructure, technology, and information. Accordingly, a closer collaboration system will be established among affiliates to jointly develop core technologies and more.
A Doosan official stated, "The new R&D center will serve as a foundation to grow the group's growth engines, including hydrogen technology, more quickly and efficiently," and emphasized, "Through the establishment of the R&D center, Doosan will contribute to Yongin-si's leap as a future industry hub city while also focusing on revitalizing the local economy, including job creation."
