[Asia Economy Reporter Cha Min-young] This year, the Nobel Prize in Chemistry was awarded to Benjamin List from Germany and David MacMillan from the United States.

The Nobel Committee of the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences announced on the 6th (local time) that List and MacMillan would receive the Nobel Prize in Chemistry for developing a precise tool to create molecules called "asymmetric organocatalysis."

The two scientists will share a prize of 10 million kronor (approximately 1.35 billion KRW).

The Nobel Prize is a prestigious award given to individuals who have made significant contributions to the advancement of humanity, according to the wishes of Swedish inventor Alfred Nobel.

Starting with the Physiology or Medicine Prize announced on the 4th, the Physics and Chemistry Prizes have been announced, and the recipients of the Literature Prize on the 7th, the Peace Prize on the 8th, and the Economic Sciences Prize on the 11th will be revealed sequentially.

This year’s Nobel Prize ceremony will be held online at the end of the year, as was the case last year, due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
