Seoul City Redevelops Cheonho 1 and 3 Districts... Swimming Pool and Library to Be Added

[Asia Economy Reporter Kim Min-young] The Cheonho-dong area in Gangdong-gu, Seoul, is being redeveloped to include facilities such as a swimming pool and library for residents' convenience.

On the 6th, the Seoul Metropolitan Government held the "9th Seoul Metropolitan Urban Redevelopment Committee" and approved the revision of the "Cheonho Redevelopment Promotion Plan (draft)."

Accordingly, Seoul plans to change the green space within Cheonho Redevelopment Promotion Organization's Cheonho 3 District at 423 Cheonho-dong, Gangdong-gu, into a park, and integrate it with the park site to be created in the adjacent Cheonho 1 District to form a single park.

In particular, the underground space of the park site will be utilized to build a public parking lot with approximately 450 spaces and a swimming pool. In addition, a community center equipped with a small library and lecture rooms will provide various public services by the end of 2024.

These facilities were proposed through consultations between the respective districts under the jurisdiction of Gangdong-gu, on sites to be donated as part of the promotion projects in Cheonho 1 and Cheonho 3 Districts. The roles, including the entities responsible for constructing each facility and cost-sharing, will be divided and promoted accordingly.

Furthermore, a plan to expand and renovate 549 meters of roads, including Olympic-ro 80-gil and Gucheonmyeon-ro 33-gil?long-unexecuted roads in Cheonho 3 District?will be carried out by Gangdong-gu in connection with the Cheonho District promotion project, widening them to 8 meters.

Kim Seong-bo, Director of the Seoul Housing Policy Office, stated, "Through public-private cooperation, by integrating insufficient public facilities such as sports facilities in the Cheonho and Seongnae living areas into the existing planned public facility sites, we expect to contribute to providing convenience to residents and improving their quality of life."
