Mapo-gu Opens 'Cheongnyeon Bokdeokbang' for Youth Housing Consultation

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] “After breaking through the difficult job market and getting into the desired workplace, I was worried about choosing a problematic house or being ignored while looking for a home. Then I learned about the ‘Cheongnyeon Bokdeokbang’ where two experts accompany you to look at houses, so I applied.”

Kim Yunhwa (pseudonym), who is scheduled to work in Sangam-dong, Mapo-gu, shared her motivation for applying for the youth housing consultation service.

Mapo-gu (Mayor Yoo Dong-gyun) announced that it will operate the ‘Cheongnyeon Bokdeokbang,’ which provides housing consultations for youth currently residing or planning to move into the district, until the 30th of next month.

The district added that to assist young adults who are new to society and face difficulties when looking for housing, it signed a business agreement with Mindalpaengi Union, the operator of the Seoul Youth Housing Consultation Center, to carry out this project.

The ‘Cheongnyeon Bokdeokbang’ project includes three services: ▲housing consultation service ▲house-hunting accompaniment service ▲housing education. Youth aged 19 to 34 who reside in or plan to move to Mapo-gu can use these services free of charge.

The housing consultation service provides solutions for issues directly or indirectly related to housing, such as disputes related to lease contracts, maintenance and repair of rental housing, management fees, and brokerage commissions, which are commonly experienced.

Consultations are conducted by youth housing counselors who respond to housing-related concerns listed in the application form via email, divided into basic and in-depth consultations.

The house-hunting accompaniment service involves two experts accompanying the applicant on-site, providing close advice on what to check when viewing houses, what to review before signing contracts, and how to negotiate real estate brokerage fees for young adults new to society.

On-site accompaniment is generally limited to one session, with up to 3 hours of accompaniment following a 30-minute pre-education session, and a satisfaction survey is conducted afterward.

Housing education, under the theme “The Always Daunting A to Z of House Hunting,” will be held online via the Zoom platform at 7 p.m. on the 14th and 7 p.m. on November 11.

To use the ‘Cheongnyeon Bokdeokbang,’ applicants can scan the QR code in the ‘Notice Zone’ on the Mapo-gu Office website or access the Google Form on their personal mobile phones and submit the survey. However, housing education is open to all youth regardless of residence, and applications close at 5 p.m. the day before the education session.

For more details, inquiries can be made to the Mapo-gu Child and Youth Division.

Yoo Dong-gyun, Mayor of Mapo-gu, said, “I hope the ‘Cheongnyeon Bokdeokbang’ will help relieve the frustration young people feel when looking for a home,” adding, “We will continue to implement policies that provide practical help to youth in their daily lives.”
