[Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Cho Hyung-joo] Chonnam National University has prepared a variety of events to celebrate the 575th anniversary of Hangeul Day.
According to Chonnam National University on the 5th, the Korean Language and Culture Center at Chonnam National University (Director Yang Young-hee, Professor of Korean Language Education) is flexibly operating various events commemorating the 575th Hangeul Day with the support of Gwangju City and cooperation from the university’s newspaper and broadcasting company and the International Cooperation Headquarters, in accordance with the COVID-19 situation.
The “Gwangju Citizens’ Korean Language Competition” is a quiz contest held online. Any resident of Gwangju Metropolitan City can register and participate in the preliminary round until the 7th.
The “Gagyanal Lecture Contest,” open to both Koreans and foreigners, invites participants to submit a video lecture on the theme “About Me, My Story” along with an application form. Winners will be selected through judging. Lecture durations are about 5 minutes for Koreans and 3 minutes for foreigners. After awarding, an online sharing session of the lectures will be held. Registration is open until the 15th.
The Public Language Improvement Contest invites participants to find incorrect expressions used in documents and websites of public institutions and submit refined Korean language versions. Winners will be selected through judging. Applications are accepted until the 20th.
The on-site experience and exhibition titled “Walking the Path of Our Language in Hangeullo (路) Festival” will be held in November when the COVID-19 situation transitions to With-Corona. The event will primarily be conducted on-site with various experiences and exhibitions, but if circumstances do not permit, it will be operated non-face-to-face. This exhibition and experience include various programs such as spelling and pure Korean word quizzes, naming in Korean, and creating body calligraphy.
