‘Everyday Peace Shared Together’ 2021 Suncheon Korea-China-Japan Peace Forum Held

[Suncheon=Asia Economy Honam Reporting Headquarters Reporter Lee Hyung-kwon] Suncheon City, Jeollanam-do (Mayor Heo Seok) announced on the 5th that it will hold the ‘2021 Suncheon Korea-China-Japan Peace Forum’ in a hybrid online and offline format over two days on the 8th and 9th at the Suncheonman Bay National Garden International Wetland Center 3D Theater.

Held for the second time following 2019, the ‘2021 Suncheon Korea-China-Japan Peace Forum’ is a venue to discuss new paths to peace to be passed on to future generations in the era of climate (ecological) crisis, under the theme of ‘Peace in Everyday Life Shared Together’ as we emerge from the long tunnel of the COVID-19 pandemic and embrace a new normal.

The forum will be further enriched by the participation of key domestic and international figures including former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama, Chinese Ambassador to Korea Xing Haiming, and Professor Park Ki-young of Suncheon National University.

On the first day of the official event on the 8th, the program will begin with a keynote speech by former UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon, followed by presentations and discussions by former Vice Minister of Unification Kim Hyung-seok and former Japanese Prime Minister Yukio Hatoyama on the themes of cooperation for building a Northeast Asia peace network and future actions for establishing ecological peace, respectively.

The second day on the 9th will start with a special lecture on the history of the Jeongyu War in Suncheon and the Korean tombs in Kyoto, followed by a presentation by Chinese Ambassador Xing Haiming on cooperation in higher education in the Asian era. A Korea-China city leaders’ meeting will be held by inviting descendants of the Jeongyu War local governments to discuss sustainable peace.

As side events, as part of the East Asia Cultural City program, various meaningful attractions will be provided including a Korea-China-Japan traditional costume fashion show, peace project promotion booths, an awards ceremony for the National Peace in Everyday Life Contest, and an exhibition of contest works, adding richness to the forum.

Mayor Heo Seok of Suncheon said, “This 2021 Suncheon Korea-China-Japan Peace Forum has been prepared to allow people to experience peace in coexistence and prosperity in the present era of crises such as climate change and new pandemics, beyond past peace in security, unification, and history. Next year, we will develop it into a ‘World Peace Forum’ like the ‘Davos Forum’ that leads global ecological economic issues.”

Citizens wishing to attend the forum online can participate in real time by entering the meeting ID on the Zoom app on the 8th and 9th.
