[Asia Economy Reporter Ra Young-cheol] The Guri-Namyangju Office of Education in Gyeonggi Province announced on the 5th that Deokso Elementary School, selected as an operating school for the 2021 School Forest Creation Project designated by the Gyeonggi Provincial Office of Education, has opened the school forest "Kkumbitnarae Forest."
"Kkumbitnarae Forest" covers a total area of 950㎡ and provides a space where students can play in harmony with nature. The central plaza and the area around the birch tree grove have been developed as outdoor class spaces, which will be used for student exhibitions, presentations, and other events.
In particular, the school plans to utilize the school forest as an experiential ecological learning site by supporting exploration and project classes linked to the curriculum, allowing students to experience various plants and engage in distinctive educational programs.
Deokso Elementary School previously formed and operated the "School Forest Model School Promotion Council," which included students, teachers, parents, and local community residents to gather opinions for green space creation.
Principal Lee Sang-ho said, "I think all our children are beautiful flowers, just like the flowers and plants in the school forest," adding, "I hope that expanding green spaces will also help reduce fine dust and heat waves."
