[Asia Economy Reporter Chunhee Lee] Cha Hospital and Bio Group announced on the 5th that they have established the Cha Future Medical Research Institute and appointed Professor Yangsoo Jang as its director.


Director Yangsoo Jang is a cardiology specialist who graduated from Yonsei University College of Medicine in 1982 and completed his master's and doctorate degrees at the same graduate school. He served as the dean of Yonsei University College of Medicine and the dean of the Graduate School of Medicine, as well as the inaugural president of the Korean Society of Cardiovascular Interventions, clinical research chairman of the Korean Society of Lipid and Atherosclerosis, chairman of the Korean Society of Cardiovascular Interventions, and president of the Korean Stent Research Society.


In 2002, he developed the 'stent,' used to widen narrowed blood vessels in patients with coronary artery disease, using domestic independent technology for the first time in Korea, and received the Patent Technology Award. He holds more than 10 patents related to stents and catheters and has also conducted technology transfers related to these, making him a first-generation medical scientist in Korea.


Director Jang said, "Although there are numerous bio companies and hospitals in Korea, there is no place with a better industry-academia-research-hospital system than Cha Hospital," adding, "Industrialization is taking place in various fields including hospitals in Gangnam, Ilsan, Bundang, and Gumi, as well as Cha Biotech, CMG Pharmaceutical, and the soon-to-be-listed Cha Vaccine Institute." He also stated, "Based on the achievements made through the great dedication and continuous efforts of Dr. Kwangryul Cha, director of the Cha Hospital and Bio Group Global Comprehensive Research Institute, who has a strong commitment to industry-academia-research-hospital collaboration with 71 global networks in 7 countries, we will establish a multidisciplinary research support system and provide reasonable research support to produce results."
