[Asia Economy Reporter Hyunjin Jung] On the occasion of this year's Display Day, Choi Hyung-seok, Vice President and Head of LG Display's IT Business Division, received the Silver Tower Industrial Medal.


The Korea Display Industry Association announced awards for contributors to the display industry on the 12th Display Day on the 5th, recognizing those who contributed to the commercialization of innovative display technologies and products or to the expansion of sales and exports through localization of materials, parts, and equipment.


Choi, Vice President of LG Display, who was selected for the highest honor, the Silver Tower Industrial Medal, is a display expert with 25 years of experience across TV, mobile, and IT business sectors. He was recognized for his contributions to enhancing the competitiveness of the display industry and increasing exports through innovative product development and expansion of global clients. In particular, Vice President Choi led the development of the P-OLED for smartwatches introduced in 2015 and the world's first P-OLED product for foldable laptops released in 2019. Currently, LG Display holds the global No. 1 position with a 34% market share in sales in the global high-resolution IT display market.


Vice President Choi said, "I am pleased to be recognized for contributing to the continuously growing Korean display industry despite fierce competition," adding, "I will do my best to enhance the status of Korea's display industry with even better products in the future."


In addition to the Silver Tower Industrial Medal, the Presidential Citation was awarded to Kim Hyung-jun, CEO of Viatron, who contributed to increased exports through localization of seven pieces of equipment including heat treatment equipment for large OLEDs via technological innovation. The Prime Minister's Citation was awarded to Samsung Display's Executive Director Lee Dong-won, who enhanced the status of OLED in the display market through productivity improvements by introducing new OLED processes, and to Dongjin Semichem's Vice President Kim Byung-wook, who contributed to the world's first development and mass production of 4-mask PR.


The Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy Citation was awarded to 10 people including SFA's Executive Director Kim Jong-gu, who contributed to improving the competitiveness of the domestic display industry through the development and supply of automated solutions for OLED and LCD process logistics systems. The Commissioner of the Korean Intellectual Property Office Citation was awarded to two people including Semes' Senior Researcher Kim Cheol-woo, who contributed to the creation of domestic and international intellectual property rights through patents related to core display processes and equipment.
