Yangcheon-gu Sinwol 2-dong 'Visiting National Support Fund Application' One-Stop Service Visiting the home of an elderly person with mobility difficulties to deliver the issued National Support Fund card

[Asia Economy Reporter Park Jong-il] “I should buy some beef. It’s really convenient and nice that the community center takes care of it for me!”

Kim, a 93-year-old senior living alone in Sinwol 2-dong, Yangcheon-gu (Mayor Kim Soo-young), said this after receiving the COVID-19 National Support Fund card personally delivered by a community center official.

Earlier this year, Kim injured their leg, making even brief trips outside the house difficult. When they heard about the COVID-19 National Support Fund but felt unsure about how to apply, a Sinwol 2-dong community center staff member happened to visit with Chuseok gifts.

After learning about the senior’s difficult situation, the community center official assisted with filling out the application form, verifying required documents, and personally delivered the issued National Support Fund card to their home.

The Sinwol 2-dong community center recognized that there were many similar cases like Kim’s. Accordingly, they planned a one-stop “Visiting National Support Fund Application” service, where all staff directly visit elderly living alone or disabled households who have mobility difficulties or wish to apply for the support fund in person, with prior identification of mobility issues through visiting nurses. Community center staff visit at least twice?from application form assistance to data entry and card delivery?checking the health status of the target households and carefully confirming if any other needs exist.

So far, about ten households have benefited from the one-stop “Visiting National Support Fund Application” service. The Sinwol 2-dong community center plans to continue operating until the application deadline to ensure no one misses out on the support fund due to mobility difficulties.

Hwang Gwang-seon, head of Sinwol 2-dong, said, “We will not just provide one-time support but will accurately understand each individual’s situation and carefully ensure that essential welfare services are provided timely from the residents’ perspective.”
